Blended Care in Action: A Heart-Warming Visit from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

This month at Tŷ Llandaff, we were delighted to host a truly special event that brought two generations together in a celebration of stories, learning, and community. We welcomed the bright and bubbly children of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, who joined us for an afternoon of storytelling and laughter armed with their favourite books.

The visit was particularly meaningful given the rich literary heritage of our shared Llandaff community. As the hometown of Roald Dahl, one of the world’s most beloved authors, Llandaff has inspired creativity for generations, and the children are keen to follow in his footsteps. Their love of reading and storytelling was infectious, filling our home with a sense of wonder and joy that was felt by everyone.

For our residents, this intergenerational activity was a source of both delight and fulfilment. Listening to the children read allowed them to connect with the next generation, offering warm words of encouragement and sharing their own stories in return. It was a touching sight to see residents and children alike chatting, laughing, and bonding over their mutual love of books and storytelling. These moments of connection highlighted the value of blended care, where different generations come together to support, learn from, and inspire one another.

At Tŷ Llandaff Care Home, we’re passionate about creating opportunities like this to enrich the lives of both our residents and our wider community. Blended care activities not only promote companionship but also strengthen the intergenerational ties that make our Welsh community so unique.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the children of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and their teachers for taking the time to visit us. Their enthusiasm and love for reading brought immense joy to our home, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming them back in the future for more wonderful moments of connection and shared inspiration.
