Starting The New Year With Our Health & Well-being Programme

We have looked forward to welcoming the New Year at Ty Llandaff and the focus is health and well-being, which we thought was fitting for January when motivation is at a high.

Getting enough exercise has a huge benefit to a person's physical and mental well-being and we have discussed the results of studies that show that people over 65 who exercise regularly are healthier. Our residents' health and well-being are our number one priority at Tŷ Llandaff, therefore we are keen to get everyone involved in this to help make a positive impact on their lives.

Within our programme we have incorporated healthy eating, exercise and drinking well to promote overall well-being among our residents. We have discussed menu choices and have spoken with the kitchen to ask for salads to be a regular feature on the menu in addition to home-cooked meals with lots of fresh vegetables, whilst understanding that some of us do benefit from a fortified diet.

Residents enjoy smoothies and milkshakes made daily in the kitchen by James our head chef and never miss a chance in our activities to enjoy a drink and a chat as we meet and come together.

Residents recently had a go at balloon tennis, showing their competitive side. We achieved a record-breaking tally by keeping the balloon in the air.

We will be encouraging residents to participate in weekly chair exercise sessions as this is inclusive for all and can be done inside where it's nice and warm.

We will be integrating more physical activity within our activities programme when the days get warmer. We are looking forward to the chill factor dropping to enjoy some time in the garden, counting our steps, and feeling the fresh air in our lungs. Bring on Spring!
